Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with executives from more than 30 leading U.S. companies and members of an international economic advisory group in New York, focusing on investment, reconstruction and economic resilience amid the war with Russia.

The Sept. 24 meeting included representatives of Citigroup, BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, Lazard, Macquarie, FedEx, L3Harris, Northrop Grumman, Shield AI, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the World Bank and other financial, defense and infrastructure organizations. U.S. Deputy Under Secretary of the Treasury Jonathan Greenstein also attended.

Zelenskyy briefed participants on the situation on the front lines and efforts to increase pressure on Russia to pursue peace. He said national security and economic strength were closely linked, arguing that Ukraine needed a functioning economy to sustain its defense and a strong defense to protect economic activity.

Discussions centered on helping Ukraine manage the coming winter, strengthening energy infrastructure and storage, and expanding defense technology and joint production. Participants also examined plans for a sovereign wealth fund, capital-market development, special economic zones and industrial parks to support regional reconstruction.

The meeting also addressed the U.S.-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund, potential investments by the fund and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, war-risk insurance and financing tools for American investors. Zelenskyy invited the companies and institutions to cooperate on priority investment projects.
