A 28-year-old Kingaroy man has been fined after allegedly riding an e-scooter while over the legal alcohol limit and without a helmet in the Queensland town on August 20. Queensland Police said officers stopped the man after seeing him ride along First Avenue at about 3:30 p.m. He allegedly returned a roadside breath-test reading above the legal limit and later recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.108 per cent at Kingaroy Police Station. The man was issued an $863 infringement notice for mid-range drink riding and a further $518 fine for failing to wear a helmet. Police said he had purchased the personal mobility device one day before the incident. The Queensland Police Service said it is working with road safety partners to enforce new e-mobility laws introduced on July 1. Under the rules, riders must wear helmets, comply with speed and location restrictions, and must not ride while affected by alcohol.
