A 27-year-old Leichhardt man has been charged with drug driving after allegedly being detected travelling at 194km/h in a 100km/h zone at Deebing Heights, southwest of Brisbane. Queensland Police said Ipswich Highway Patrol officers intercepted a Holden Commodore on the Centenary Highway at about 6:50 a.m. on August 20. The driver allegedly returned a positive result during a roadside drug test. The man was charged with one count of drug driving and issued a notice to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on September 9. He was also issued a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h, fined $1,986, given eight demerit points and had his licence suspended. Ipswich Highway Patrol Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant Jared Tyne said the combination of excessive speed and alleged drug driving posed a serious risk to the driver and other road users. Police said high-visibility patrols and enforcement activities would continue across Queensland under Operation Interpose.
