Queensland Police are investigating three wilful damage incidents involving groups of youths in Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast, including damage to a bus shelter and two toilet blocks. The first incident occurred shortly before 10.20pm on June 20 near the intersection of Mooloolaba Esplanade and Meta Street. Police found a damaged glass panel at a bus stop, while a 15-year-old boy with lacerations to his leg was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition. A second disturbance was reported near a park on Mooloolaba Esplanade and Brisbane Road at about 10pm on July 5. Police later found that a small fire had damaged a toilet block. The fire had been extinguished before officers arrived, and no other structures were affected. On August 3, an unknown number of offenders reportedly caused significant damage to another toilet block near Venning Street, including ripping off cubicle doors. No charges have been laid, and investigations remain ongoing. Maroochydore Station Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant Jacob Flaherty urged parents to help prevent anti-social behaviour by monitoring their children’s whereabouts and activities.
