NASA Previews Roman Telescope Mission

NASA will hold a virtual media briefing July 29 to preview the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope ahead of its scheduled Aug. 30 launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The briefing will begin at 2 p.m. EDT and will be streamed online through NASA platforms.

The event will include updates on the mission’s status and an overview of its scientific objectives. Participants include officials and scientists from NASA Headquarters and the agency’s Goddard Space Flight Center, including Roman Project Manager Jackie Townsend and Senior Project Scientist Julie McEnery.

Roman is designed to survey the universe with a field of view at least 100 times larger than that of the Hubble Space Telescope. NASA says the observatory will produce wide, deep views of the cosmos, helping researchers study dark energy, celestial objects and other unresolved questions about the universe.

The telescope also will demonstrate technology for directly imaging planets around nearby stars, supporting NASA’s search for signs of life beyond Earth. Media members seeking to participate by phone must RSVP at least two hours before the briefing. More information is available at nasa.gov/roman.
