Hyundai Motor Group has opened its first group-operated waste-to-hydrogen production and refueling facility in Cheongju, South Korea, as part of efforts to expand the country’s hydrogen ecosystem. The facility, operated under the HTWO ENERGY brand, is designed to produce hydrogen locally from waste-derived biogas. The site combines biogas upgrading, hydrogen production and compression systems, allowing hydrogen to be produced and used in the same region. Hyundai said the setup is intended to reduce transportation costs and strengthen regional energy self-sufficiency. HTWO ENERGY Cheongju currently has the capacity to produce approximately 500 kilograms of hydrogen per day. That capacity is expected to increase to 2 metric tons per day as operations expand. Hyundai Motor Group said it plans to strengthen its waste-to-hydrogen business through additional projects in South Korea and other global markets.
