NASA astronaut Anil Menon, along with Roscosmos cosmonauts Pyotr Dubrov and Anna Kikina, have successfully arrived at the International Space Station (ISS) on July 14, 2026, marking a significant addition to the station’s crew. The trio embarked on their journey aboard the Soyuz MS-29 spacecraft, which launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 10:47 a.m. EDT, docking at the station just over three hours later. The arrival of these three space travelers brings the total number of personnel on the ISS to ten, with their stay expected to last approximately two weeks. They joined the existing members of Expedition 74 which includes astronauts and cosmonauts from NASA, the European Space Agency, and Roscosmos. The integration of the new crew members was broadcast live, with coverage starting prior to the hatch opening, which was scheduled around 4 p.m. During his stint on the ISS, Menon will focus on several key research activities aimed at enhancing space exploration and improving technologies that could benefit life on Earth. His projects include refining the in-space production of semiconductor crystals, utilizing ultrasound with augmented reality, and participating in studies to understand blood flow in microgravity conditions. These experiments are crucial for developing advanced computational, medical, and biological technologies. The current Expedition 74 will transition to Expedition 75 on July 26, following the departure of several members. A change of command ceremony is also scheduled, signifying a leadership shift at the space station. The ongoing research and operations at the ISS continue to contribute to our understanding of space and foster international cooperation in space exploration.
