A large foster family in Ukraine’s Kyiv region has received a newly built home through the Olena Zelenska Foundation’s Room for Childhood initiative. First Lady Olena Zelenska presented the keys to Viktoriia and Oleksandr Palamarenko in the village of Hoholiv on July 20, 2026. The Palamarenkos became a foster family in 2022 and later established a family-type children’s home. Their household currently includes four foster children and two biological children. The new property will allow them to welcome two additional children. The foundation said it oversees each project, including design, construction, interior finishing, furnishing and the installation of a secure underground shelter. The initiative has provided homes to 23 large foster families, while construction is underway on 15 additional properties. The United Arab Emirates financed 10 homes during a new phase of cooperation with the foundation. Victoria Romanova, the foundation’s chief executive, said the Palamarenko family was the first to receive a home under the latest phase, with nine other houses currently under construction. The project supports Ukraine’s broader efforts to expand family-based care and reduce reliance on institutional facilities.
