NASA astronauts Chris Williams and Jessica Meir are scheduled for a crucial extravehicular activity on June 30, 2026, as they step out of the International Space Station (ISS) to replace a malfunctioning wrist joint on the Canadarm2 robotic arm. This spacewalk, known as US Spacewalk 95, is expected to start at 8:35 a.m. EDT and last approximately six-and-a-half hours.

The malfunction occurred during normal operations on May 27, when the arm’s motor drew an elevated current and did not move as expected. NASA, in collaboration with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), has prepared for this repair by planning a spacewalk using a spare joint already available on the ISS. This repair emphasizes the ongoing necessity for maintenance on the aging Canadarm2, which has been operational for over 25 years.

In preparation for the spacewalk, NASA and CSA will host a news conference on June 25 at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, streamed live on NASA’s YouTube channel at 2 p.m. EDT. Key participants include Bill Spetch, Fiona Antkowiak, and Jason Dyer, who will discuss the details and expectations of the upcoming mission. Media are invited to attend in person or join via phone, with details available through NASA’s communications channels.

This spacewalk marks the second for Williams and the fifth for Meir, demonstrating their seasoned expertise in handling complex tasks in the challenging environment of space. The event will be broadcast live across several platforms, including NASA+, Amazon Prime, Netflix, and YouTube, allowing audiences worldwide to witness the intricate operations conducted by these astronauts.
