Europol, in collaboration with eight European law enforcement bodies and the FBI, recently concluded a pivotal counter-terrorism operation that significantly disrupted the activities of the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) in Europe. The coordinated action spanned a week and was aimed at dismantling the terror group’s networks across the continent. From June 1 to 5, 2026, the operation targeted individuals connected to ISKP of Chechen and Central Asian descent, leveraging shared intelligence to identify and apprehend suspects. The collaborative effort facilitated by Europol’s European Counter Terrorism Centre (ECTC) involved real-time intelligence sharing and cross-border cooperation, which proved crucial in mapping ISKP’s travel routes across Europe, South America, and the United States. This swift international response resulted in several arrests following an urgent intelligence request processed over a weekend. The operation not only led to significant arrests but also enabled the exchange of over 100 gigabytes of operational data, advancing numerous high-stakes investigations. Specialized support was provided by Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre and the European Financial and Economic Crime Centre, which assisted in tracking cryptocurrency trails and disrupting financing networks. Innovative tools from the Europol Tool Repository were also deployed to enhance the operational capabilities of participating countries. Participating nations included Belgium, Czechia, Germany, Finland, Italy, Ireland, Spain, and the United States, highlighting the global nature of the effort to combat terrorism. This operation underscores the importance of international collaboration and intelligence-driven actions in the ongoing battle against global terror threats.
