A 20-year-old man from Capalaba has been charged with multiple offenses, including theft and weapon possession following an incident at a local shopping center on June 17, as reported by the Queensland Police Service. According to police, the suspect is alleged to have entered a supermarket around 1:30 pm and exited without paying for several items. When confronted by loss prevention officers, he fled the scene. A police cordon was soon established, and the Dog Squad was called in. PD Bronco, a police dog, successfully tracked the suspect to Lyre Street approximately an hour later, leading to his arrest. During the arrest, the suspect sustained minor injuries and was initially taken to Redland Hospital before being formally detained. Police later discovered a machete inside a backpack that the suspect allegedly discarded during the chase. The charges against the man include two counts of possessing a knife in a public place, one count each of going armed so as to cause fear, committing a public nuisance offense near a licensed premises, obstructing a police officer, and stealing. He is scheduled to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court on June 30.
