Zelenskyy’s Global Diplomatic Marathon

ÉVIAN, France – In a series of high-profile meetings during the G7 Summit on June 16, 2026, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy engaged with several global leaders to discuss matters crucial to Ukraine’s defense and economic stability. The discussions highlighted ongoing international efforts to provide military and economic support to Ukraine amidst its challenges with Russian aggression.

President Zelenskyy met with Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz to deliberate on defense support and the necessary steps towards achieving peace. Concurrently, discussions with Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney focused on intensifying sanctions against Russia and bolstering Ukraine’s military capabilities. Further support was secured in Zelenskyy’s meeting with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, which centered on continued financial aid for Ukraine.

The day also saw significant diplomatic engagements involving the UK and European Union. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s meeting resulted in a financial commitment of £210 million to support Ukraine’s nuclear industry and additional sanctions targeting Russian financial networks. The G7-Ukraine meeting, which included leaders like Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump, emphasized strengthening Ukraine’s air defense systems and energy support.

First Lady Olena Zelenska also played a pivotal role by rallying support for Ukrainian women affected by the conflict, in an event backed by the UK, Canada, and Australia. These discussions across various platforms underscored a strong international commitment to supporting Ukraine in its ongoing conflict and economic recovery efforts.
