Police in Cairns have been actively responding to a series of criminal incidents across the city, leading to multiple arrests and charges over the past week. In a recent event in Manoora, a 35-year-old local man was detained after threatening residents with a knife during a disturbance at a Murray Street home early on May 31. Authorities charged him with going armed to cause fear, and he is expected to face the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 22. Simultaneously, a separate incident involved a 34-year-old Trinity Beach man who was arrested following the interception of a stolen white Nissan Navara in Mount Sheridan. Occurring shortly after the vehicle was reported stolen from Manoora, the arrest revealed the man’s possession of a samurai sword and drug paraphernalia, along with a minor drink driving offense. His court appearance is scheduled for June 16. Furthermore, police action continued with the apprehension of two young boys in Manoora, aged 15 and 13, after they allegedly attempted to break into a unit complex on Birch Street. Both face charges related to property offenses, with additional charges for attempted dwelling entry pressed against the older boy. Their cases are set to be heard in the Cairns Children’s Court later this month. In another case, a man was arrested in Mooroobool for carrying a knife in public and obstructing police during a routine patrol on McCoombe Street. His court appearance is due on June 17. The Queensland Police Service urges the public to report any suspicious activities directly through their online platforms or via Crime Stoppers anonymously. For emergencies, the public is reminded to dial 000, and for non-urgent reports, Policelink is available at 131 444. These incidents underscore ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to address and mitigate criminal activities in the Cairns region, aiming to ensure community safety and uphold public order.
