Queensland police have charged a 39-year-old Westcourt man after allegedly finding a sawn-off shotgun, methylamphetamine and more than $30,000 in cash during a search of a Cairns North property.

Officers from the Major and Organised Crime Squad Far Northern, assisted by the Far North Dog Squad, carried out the search at a McLeod Street address on May 25.

The man was charged with possessing dangerous drugs, possessing items used in the commission of a crime, unlawful possession of a category H weapon and possessing property suspected to have been acquired through the proceeds of an offence. He was refused bail and was due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on May 26.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brad Grace said police would continue efforts to disrupt the movement of methylamphetamine and illegal weapons in Far North Queensland. Police urged anyone with information to contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
