The European Parliament will address steel market safeguards, access to medicines and fisheries management during its plenary session on Monday, May 18. A press briefing on the week’s agenda is scheduled for 16:30 and will be streamed online. Members of the European Parliament and European Commissioner Costas Kadis are expected to discuss new safeguards for EU steel manufacturers facing global overcapacity. Parliament is scheduled to hold its final vote on the legislation on Tuesday. From about 20:00, lawmakers will debate cooperation among EU countries to secure access to pharmaceuticals amid changing geopolitical conditions. Health Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi is scheduled to take part in the discussion. The agenda also includes fisheries and marine-environment policy, including the impact of the Maritime Spatial Planning Directive and a multiannual plan for the Baltic Sea. A presentation on the Research Fund for Coal and Steel is expected later in the evening. The session will be available through the European Parliament’s webstreaming service and the European Commission’s EbS+ platform.
