In a pivotal meeting on May 13, 2026, with UK representatives, Ukrainian officials led by Vladyslav Vlasiuk, the Advisor-Commissioner for Sanctions Policy, discussed intensified sanctions and strategies against Russia, particularly targeting the illegal activities of Russia’s “shadow fleet” and curtailing electronic supplies to the Russian military-industrial complex.

The session, attended by the First Secretary of the UK Embassy in Ukraine, Jack Meeson, and Political Advisor James Ford, highlighted the collaborative efforts of Ukraine and the UK in imposing stringent measures against Russian entities. Since the onset of the Russian invasion, the UK has implemented close to 30 sanctions decisions involving over 3,000 individuals, legal entities, and vessels associated with the Russian shadow fleet. In 2025, Ukraine fully aligned with all 11 UK sanctions decisions and has continued this partnership into 2026.

At the forefront of the discussions were the new sanctions instituted on May 11, specifically targeting individuals involved in the abduction of Ukrainian children. The UK has integrated nearly 70% of Ukraine’s proposals in this sanctions package, notably including Dmitry Shevchenko, director of the Voin military-sports center, known for the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children from occupied territories. The meeting also explored the expansion of existing sanctions and the preparation of new ones, with a significant focus on electronics that bolster Russia’s military capabilities.

Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to continue their robust collaboration on sanctioning measures, aiming to debilitate the military operations of the Russian Federation effectively.
