As Europol’s Operational Taskforce (OTF) GRIMM celebrates its first anniversary, significant progress has been made in the fight against violence-as-a-service and other organized crime activities across Europe. The task force, which involves collaboration from 11 European countries, has been pivotal in arresting 280 suspects over the past year, including 6 high-value targets. OTF GRIMM was established to combat the increasingly complex network of violence-as-a-service, where acts of violence are orchestrated and conducted across national boundaries. This model of crime has shifted from isolated incidents to a more systematic and scalable approach, facilitated by online platforms that assist in recruitment and operational coordination. The EU Most Wanted website, managed by the European Network of Fugitive Active Search Teams (ENFAST) and supported by Europol, has been instrumental in these efforts. It serves as a public platform where citizens can help in the apprehension of fugitives by providing anonymous tips. Recent updates to the site include the addition of three suspects involved in violence networks, with crimes ranging from murder to drug trafficking and money laundering. Europol continues to encourage public participation through the #helpusfindthem campaign and offers a sign-up service for email alerts about new fugitives. These measures not only facilitate the capture of criminals but also engage the community in maintaining public safety. As investigations evolve, more suspects are expected to be featured on the EU Most Wanted list, intensifying the crackdown on organized crime across the continent. OTF GRIMM’s ongoing success is a testament to the collaborative efforts across European countries, showcasing a united front in the battle against sophisticated criminal networks that operate on a global scale.
