A previously scheduled press conference to discuss the latest developments in the European Union’s artificial intelligence (AI) legislation has been abruptly cancelled. The press event, organized by the European Parliament, was set to take place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, in the Daphne Caruana Galizia press conference room at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

The conference was intended to provide insights from Arba Kokalari (EPP, Sweden) and Michael McNamara (Renew, Ireland), who are respectively rapporteurs for the Internal Market and Civil Liberties committees. They were expected to address the media about the outcomes of the second trilogue session involving negotiations with member states regarding a proposal to amend EU rules governing AI.

The negotiations aim to introduce measures that would provide greater flexibility for companies, support for small mid-caps, and potentially delay certain regulations concerning high-risk AI systems. Notably, the proposal includes plans to possibly ban AI “nudification” systems. These discussions are part of the broader effort to have the new regulations in place before August 2026.

Although the press conference will no longer proceed as planned, the European Parliament has confirmed that accredited journalists will still have opportunities to submit their questions remotely. Additionally, the discussions will be webstreamed live and recorded on the Parliament’s Multimedia Centre, ensuring ongoing transparency and accessibility for interested parties.
