MEPs Assess Eastern Hybrid Threats

A European Parliament delegation examined hybrid threats facing Poland and Lithuania during a visit to the two countries from March 30 to April 1, focusing on security challenges along the European Union’s eastern borders.

Members of the Special Committee on the European Democracy Shield reviewed national efforts to counter the instrumentalisation of migration, airspace violations, sabotage, disinformation and cyberattacks. They met with government officials, parliamentarians, cybersecurity experts and representatives of Frontex.

Nathalie Loiseau, chair of the committee and head of the delegation, said Poland and Lithuania were making significant efforts to maintain border controls and strengthen their ability to withstand hybrid attacks. She called for continued European Union solidarity and support for both countries.

The visit also focused on improving broader systemic resilience against hostile actions by external actors. The European Parliament said the discussions were intended to support democratic security and strengthen cooperation among member states.
