Tolan Builds Voice AI With GPT-5.1

Tolan has developed a voice-first artificial intelligence companion using OpenAI’s GPT-5.1, according to an OpenAI blog post published Jan. 7, 2026. The system is designed to support more natural, responsive conversations.

The company combines low-latency responses with real-time context reconstruction, allowing the AI to track and respond to changing conversational details.

Tolan also uses memory-driven personalities to create more consistent interactions over time. OpenAI said the approach is intended to make conversations with the AI companion feel more natural and personalized.
