Parliament Forum Targets Democratic Resilience

The European Parliament will host its second Parliamentary Democracy Forum in Brussels on Sept. 29-30, bringing together members of the European Parliament, national lawmakers, EU experts and civil society representatives to discuss ways to strengthen democratic resilience and public trust.

The forum will focus on protecting elections, the role of civil society, parliamentary oversight at EU and national levels, and responses to geopolitical disruption. The event will take place in the European Parliament’s hemicycle at the Paul-Henri Spaak building.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, leader of Belarus’ democratic forces, is scheduled to deliver the opening address on Sept. 29. She will then participate in an exchange with European Parliament Vice-President Esteban González Pons and answer questions from the audience.

A discussion with European Commissioner Michael McGrath is planned for Sept. 30, followed by closing remarks from European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. Accredited journalists may attend in person, while the sessions will also be streamed and recorded through the Parliament’s Multimedia Centre.
