The European Parliament will officially rename one of its Brussels buildings after former President David Sassoli at a ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026. The event will take place from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. on the Esplanade Solidarność 1980. Parliament President Roberta Metsola is expected to deliver the opening address, followed by remarks from other dignitaries and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque. The building, formerly known as the Treves building, was selected for the tribute by Parliament’s Bureau in February 2026. Sassoli, an Italian journalist and politician, served as president of the European Parliament from July 2019 until his death at age 65 on Jan. 11, 2022.
