A 56-year-old Morayfield man has been charged after three vegetation fires disrupted traffic near the Bruce Highway in Morayfield on September 14, Queensland Police said. Police were called to the highway near the Buchanan Road off-ramp at about 6:45 p.m. after smoke from a grassfire affected three southbound lanes. Emergency services extinguished the blaze, but two additional fires were reported nearby and were also brought under control. The man was arrested at the scene and charged with lighting an unauthorised fire. He is due to appear in Caboolture Magistrates Court on October 12. Moreton District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant Liam Pham said the incident highlighted the dangers of lighting fires as bushfire season begins. He said wind conditions helped prevent the blaze from spreading, although traffic was disrupted for several hours. Police are separately investigating a vegetation fire on Herclues Road in Kippa Ring on September 15. A witness reported seeing a man running from the direction of the fire. Investigators are appealing for information from anyone who was in the area or has relevant dashcam or CCTV footage. Information can be provided to Policelink or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
