The European Parliament will hold a press conference on the impact of social media and the online environment on young people ahead of a scheduled plenary vote later in the week. Sandro Ruotolo, the report’s rapporteur and a member of the Socialists and Democrats group from Italy, will address journalists on Tuesday, September 15, at 3 p.m. CEST in Strasbourg. The vote on the matter is scheduled for Thursday. The report calls for stronger enforcement of existing rules and urges social media platforms to ensure that online services are safe for children and young people. The initiative is being handled by the Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education. Accredited journalists may attend in person at the Daphne Caruana Galizia press conference room. Remote participation and questions will also be available through Interactio, with interpretation in English, French and Italian.
