Hyundai Motor Group has outlined a plan to accelerate autonomous-driving development through expanded use of artificial intelligence, partnerships with NVIDIA and a data-sharing system spanning its automotive brands. The company presented the roadmap at its HMG Autonomous Driving Media Day on Sept. 13, including its first showcase of Level 2++ technology.

The group said it is pursuing a dual-track strategy: advancing Level 2+ vehicles using NVIDIA solutions while developing proprietary autonomous-driving systems through its Atria AI platform. NVIDIA-based Level 2+ production is targeted for the first half of 2028, with Level 2++ vehicles planned for the second half of that year. Atria AI-powered Level 2++ vehicles are targeted for the second half of 2029.

Hyundai said Hyundai Motor, Kia, 42dot and Motional are progressively standardizing sensor systems and combining their autonomous-driving capabilities. The group’s “Data Flywheel” strategy will use vehicle data for collection, training, validation and deployment. Hyundai plans to draw on its annual sales of about 7 million vehicles and a Data Union framework, while using methods including hard-example mining, continuous training and scenario-based evaluation.

The company also said a real-world Level 4 autonomous-driving pilot is scheduled to begin in Gwangju by the end of the year in partnership with South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Its subsidiary 42dot is developing vision-language-action models that combine visual data with language-based reasoning, with road testing and broader development expected to continue through early next year.
