Two people, including an infant, were killed and two others injured in a three-vehicle crash at Oak Beach, south of Port Douglas, on May 22, Queensland Police said. Emergency services were called to the Captain Cook Highway shortly before 4 p.m. Police said initial investigations indicated that a white Mitsubishi Triton struck a red Mazda MX-5 before colliding with a white MG3 hatchback near the intersection with Reynolds Road. The 25-year-old Mossman woman driving the MG and the infant passenger died at the scene. A 22-year-old female passenger in the MG was airlifted to Cairns Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The 62-year-old Port Douglas man driving the utility was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the Mazda, a 54-year-old man and 57-year-old woman from Trinity Beach, were not physically injured. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
