Two people, including an infant, have died following a three-vehicle crash at Oak Beach, south of Port Douglas, Queensland Police said. The crash occurred on the Captain Cook Highway shortly before 4 p.m. on May 22. Police said initial investigations indicate a white Mitsubishi Triton utility struck a red Mazda MX-5 before colliding with a white MG3 hatchback near the intersection with Reynolds Road. The driver of the MG, a 34-year-old Mossman woman, and an infant passenger died at the scene. A 22-year-old female passenger was airlifted to Cairns Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The 62-year-old Port Douglas man driving the utility was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the Mazda, a 54-year-old Trinity Beach man and a 57-year-old Trinity Beach woman, were not physically injured. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and is seeking witnesses or dashcam footage under reference number QP2600977779.
