In a significant police operation, the Fortitude Valley Tactical Crime Squad has arrested 48 individuals implicated in cocaine trafficking in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane. Dubbed Operation Perico, the sting unfolded over four weekends in May and targeted the growing issue of narcotics distribution in the area.

The extensive operation was fueled by prior intelligence about ongoing cocaine trafficking activities. It resulted in the charging of more than 90 offenses, encompassing trafficking, supplying, and producing dangerous drugs, as well as possession of a knife. Law enforcement officers also confiscated 169 grams of cocaine, a knife, and $40,000 in cash during the arrests.

Among the arrested, a 22-year-old man from Logan Reserve faces multiple charges, including two counts of supplying dangerous drugs and one count each of trafficking, possessing, and producing dangerous drugs, among other related offenses. He is scheduled to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 3. Another individual, a 19-year-old from Alderley, was charged with possession of a knife in a public place and will appear in court on June 12.

Senior Sergeant Travers Weychardt of the Fortitude Valley Tactical Crime Squad highlighted the broader impact of such operations, stating, “These types of offenses are never simply a private exchange between two people, they impact the whole community, fueling crime and endangering lives.” He emphasized the operation’s role in disrupting drug supply chains and reiterated the police’s commitment to curbing drug-related crimes in Brisbane.
