Three men have been apprehended following an armed robbery in Springfield, Queensland, where a motorbike was stolen at gunpoint from a shopping centre carpark. The incident, which occurred on the evening of May 12, led to the swift action by local law enforcement, including the Ipswich Tactical Crime Squad. According to the Queensland Police Service (QPS), the robbery took place around 7:10 PM when three individuals were spotted loading a stolen blue Yamaha MTN660 into a 2017 Mitsubishi Triton. When the bike’s owner confronted them, he was threatened with a firearm. Although the victim was unharmed, the situation quickly escalated, prompting an extensive police pursuit. The stolen vehicle, previously taken from a Tancred Place address on May 3, was intercepted by police using a tyre deflation device in Redbank Plains. Following the vehicle’s halt on Regents Drive, the suspects fled on foot but were soon captured. Two were found at a nearby address, while a third was arrested in a sports field after a chase involving a police dog named PD Iggy. Facing court on May 27, the suspects, two aged 31 from Redbank Plains and Bundamba, and a 24-year-old from Redbank Plains, have been charged with armed robbery among other charges. This incident forms part of Operation Yankee Forge, a six-month initiative targeting high-volume crimes across Queensland to bolster community safety and reduce crime rates.
