Multiple vehicles were involved in a serious traffic accident on Maryborough Hervey Bay Road in the Susan River area yesterday afternoon, prompting an intensive investigation by the Forensic Crash Unit. The chain-reaction crash resulted in several injuries, some critical, and has drawn significant police attention. The incident occurred around 6:10 PM when a white Mitsubishi Lancer, driven by a 14-year-old boy from Urangan, reportedly lost control while traveling north, crossing into the opposing lane. It initially sideswiped a white Suzuki Swift, then collided with an orange Kona, causing a red Volkswagen Polo, which was following the Kona, to also become involved in the accident. Among the victims, a 16-year-old girl from the Mitsubishi was critically injured and airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital. The Mitsubishi’s driver and two other teenage passengers received various injuries and were taken to Hervey Bay Hospital in stable condition. The 18-year-old female driver of the Suzuki, from Wondunna, suffered serious injuries and was also airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical state. Additional victims from the Suzuki, Kona, and Volkswagen incurred injuries ranging from minor to serious and were treated at local hospitals. The Queensland Police are urging anyone who might have relevant information, CCTV, or dashcam footage to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
