The Townsville Tactical Crime Squad, with crucial support from various units including the Dog Squad and POLAIR, made significant arrests over a recent weekend, targeting property-related offenses. The operation, part of the broader initiative known as Operation Yankee Forge, led to the arrest of eight individuals linked to several incidents. The most notable incident involved a burglary on Norris Street, Hermit Park, on April 25, where it is alleged that a group of teenagers broke into a home and stole a grey Holden Cruze. The stolen vehicle was later halted using a tyre deflation device on Grosvenor Street. Six teenagers, aged between 13 and 17, were arrested in the vicinity following a brief pursuit on foot. Charges ranged from unlawful use of a motor vehicle to possession of dangerous drugs, with court appearances scheduled for early May. This string of arrests is part of the larger Operation Yankee Forge, a six-month, district-led initiative that began on February 27. The operation focuses on high-harm and high-volume offenses, such as unlawful use of motor vehicles, robbery, and unlawful entry, aiming to bolster community safety across Queensland. Since its inception, the operation has led to 472 charges against 187 individuals, including both youth and adults. The operation emphasizes a locally led, centrally coordinated approach to crime prevention, leveraging the deep community knowledge of local officers. This strategy ensures heightened visibility of police forces and coordinated disruption activities across the state, aiming to reduce victim numbers and ensure offenders are held accountable.
