Police in Raceview have successfully charged two men in relation to a significant copper theft, following a late-night operation on April 19, 2026. According to the Queensland Police Service (QPS), officers responded to reports of suspicious activity around 12:30 AM at a Thornton Street location.

The prompt police response led to the deployment of PD Iggy, a police dog, who tracked one suspect to a nearby address. The second suspect was apprehended at a different location shortly thereafter. Both suspects had allegedly fled from the scene of the crime. Official reports suggest that the duo illegally entered the premises and absconded with copper wiring, a crime increasingly common in the area.

Recovered items linked to the incident have been secured by the police, highlighting the effectiveness of the rapid response unit. Facing multiple charges, including two counts each of entering premises and committing an indictable offence, stealing, along with charges of wilful damage and possessing housebreaking implements, the suspects are currently held in custody. The 39-year-old and 37-year-old Raceview men are scheduled to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on May 18 and May 11, respectively.

Queensland Police urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. Information can be anonymously reported to Crime Stoppers or through Policelink as part of community efforts to curb such criminal activities.
