NASA has announced that astronauts will conduct two crucial spacewalks outside the International Space Station (ISS) to prepare for the installation of innovative solar arrays. These operations, identified as US spacewalks 94 and 95, are set to occur starting March 18, 2026.

The spacewalks aim to upgrade the ISS with roll-out solar arrays (IROSA) to enhance the station’s power capacity. The first spacewalk will be led by astronauts Jessica Meir and Chris Williams, marking Williams’ inaugural extravehicular activity. This operation will focus on preparing the 2A power channel for the upcoming IROSA installation. The second spacewalk will target the 3B power channel, with further details on the crew and timing to be released closer to the event.

NASA will provide a detailed preview of these missions during a news conference on March 16, 2026, at Johnson Space Center in Houston. Interested media can attend in-person or virtually, with options to participate via phone or social media using #AskNASA. Live coverage of the spacewalks will be available on NASA+, Amazon Prime, and NASA’s YouTube channel, starting at 6:30 a.m. on the day of the first spacewalk.

These activities will be the 278th and 279th spacewalks supporting the assembly, maintenance, and upgrades of the ISS. They mark the first spacewalks of 2026 and of Expedition 74, rescheduled from their initial January dates due to the early departure of the SpaceX Crew-11 mission.
