A 15-year-old boy from Pimpama has been apprehended by Indooroopilly General Duties police following reports of dangerous riding on an illegal e-bike in Indooroopilly, Queensland. The incident occurred on August 2, 2025, when officers spotted the teenager at a fast-food restaurant carpark on Allwood Street. The police allege that the teenager attempted to evade them, resulting in a collision with an officer and a nearby parked car. Despite the attempt to flee, he was arrested without further incident. The boy now faces multiple charges, including dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving without a license, and using an unregistered and uninsured vehicle. He has been processed under the Youth Justice Act. Chief Inspector Corey Allen of the North Brisbane District emphasized the legal obligations of e-bike operators, warning that significant charges and fines await those found using illegal e-bikes. The police are urging parents to be aware of the classifications of e-bikes they purchase for their children, reminding the public that some devices are considered motor vehicles requiring a license and registration. The Queensland Police Service continues to run targeted operations to curb illegal e-bike usage, aiming to protect pedestrians, road users, and riders. Riders are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the rules and classifications related to electric bicycles to ensure compliance and safety.
