Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has ordered officials to accelerate production of interceptor drones and missiles designed to counter Russia’s jet-powered Shahed attack drones. The decision was made during a meeting of Ukraine’s Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff on Sept. 3, according to the president’s official website. Participants focused on speeding up the development and production of high-speed interceptors. Zelenskyy said Ukrainian manufacturers had already developed prototypes and were working to improve their effectiveness to meet operational requirements. The meeting also addressed greater involvement by private businesses in producing, supplying and installing selected air defense systems. Officials established specific tasks and deadlines for the effort, the statement said. Zelenskyy said Ukraine aims to build sufficient supplies of high-quality, low-cost interceptor drones and missiles as Russia expands production of similar high-speed weapons.
