NASA is set to provide live coverage of the Axiom Mission 4’s departure from the International Space Station. The mission, which includes a crew of private astronauts, is scheduled to undock from the station’s Harmony module aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft at approximately 7:05 a.m. EDT on Monday, July 14. The crew will then make their return journey to Earth, culminating in a splashdown off the coast of California. The Axiom Mission 4 crew comprises Peggy Whitson, former NASA astronaut and current director of human spaceflight at Axiom Space, along with ISRO astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, ESA project astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, and HUNOR astronaut Tibor Kapu. They will have spent approximately two weeks in space, contributing to various scientific investigations and experiments. NASA’s comprehensive coverage of the undocking procedures will commence with the hatch closure at 4:30 a.m. on NASA+, offering viewers a detailed look at the operations. Following the undocking, Axiom Space will continue to broadcast the Dragon spacecraft’s re-entry and splashdown activities on their website. This mission highlights international collaboration, as it marks the first time astronauts from Poland and Hungary have stayed aboard the space station. Axiom Mission 4 also underscores NASA’s ongoing efforts to leverage commercial partnerships to foster a sustainable low Earth orbit economy, with the aim of advancing space exploration and facilitating future missions to the Moon and Mars.
