More than 3,600 police and emergency services personnel from 21 countries have gathered on the Gold Coast for the 20th Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games. The event runs from October 10 to 17 and includes competitors from more than 25 agencies across Australasia and the South Pacific, including Vietnam. The biennial competition features more than 70 sports, with five-on-five beach soccer, cornhole and kettlebell sports among the new additions. Shooting events will be held jointly in Toowoomba and Belmont, while other competitions will take place at venues across the Gold Coast, including beach volleyball, cross-country, cycling and lawn bowls. The Games were officially launched at the Gold Coast Sport & Leisure Centre in Carrara. Queensland Police Commissioner Brett Pointing said the event would strengthen relationships among police and emergency services personnel and support cooperation ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Queensland Police Service Superintendent Paul Hart said the 2026 Games were expected to be the largest in the event’s history. The competition is being held in Queensland for the fourth time and is expected to provide an economic boost through visitor spending on accommodation, hospitality and tourism.
