Queensland Police Service officers, staff and community members have marked National Police Remembrance Day by honoring police officers from Australia and the South Pacific who died in the line of duty. Observed annually on Sept. 29 since 1989, the remembrance day provides an opportunity to reflect on the service and sacrifice of fallen officers, as well as the ongoing loss experienced by their families and colleagues. Commemorative services were held across Queensland. Acting Queensland Police Commissioner Brett Pointing said the occasion recognized the courage and commitment of officers who faced dangerous situations while protecting their communities. “Behind every name on our honour roll is a family whose life was changed forever,” Pointing said.
