Ukraine Expands Jet Engine Production

Ukraine has approved new measures to expand domestic production of jet engines and accelerate the development of interceptor drones, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said following a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief on Sept. 25, 2026.

The meeting focused on improving defenses against Russian jet-powered Shahed drones, including the results of recent interceptor tests. Defense teams reported on their shoot-down rates and operational experience, which officials said would guide the expansion of production.

Officials also reviewed a Defense Intelligence report on Russia’s expected technological capabilities and production plans for 2027, including supply networks used to obtain components for drones and missiles. Zelenskyy said Ukraine would adjust its countermeasures and called for new sanctions targeting the networks supporting Russia’s weapons production.

The meeting also addressed the protection of data centers and other critical communications facilities. Zelenskyy said the decisions reached must be implemented at every level and that government officials and security-service leaders would be personally responsible for carrying them out.
