Brisbane Police Catch 57 Impaired Drivers

Brisbane police detected 57 people driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs during road safety enforcement activities conducted across the city over one week. Officers carried out 9,567 roadside breath tests and 159 roadside drug tests, while issuing 1,330 traffic infringement notices for offences including speeding, driving uninsured and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Police detected 34 drivers allegedly affected by alcohol and 23 allegedly affected by drugs. Local enforcement operations also resulted in 77 people being charged with a total of 142 offences, Queensland Police Service said.

In a separate incident on August 19, officers from Upper Mount Gravatt attempted to intercept a Mercedes-Benz sedan allegedly being driven without registration plates on Mains Road, Sunnybank. Police allege the vehicle made an illegal U-turn through a red light before speeding away and was later found abandoned in Robertson.

A 21-year-old Spring Hill man was arrested after officers located a rideshare vehicle he had allegedly used to leave the area. Police allege he was carrying cocaine and methylamphetamine. He faces multiple charges, including possessing dangerous drugs, dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, evading police and driving unlicensed, uninsured and unregistered. He is expected to appear at Holland Park Magistrates Court on September 28.

South Brisbane District Acting Superintendent Jon Kent and North Brisbane District Acting Superintendent Matthew Blunn said police would continue targeting dangerous driving behaviours. As of August 25, 19 people had died on Brisbane roads in 2026, according to police, which was eight fewer than the same period in 2025.
