President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska attended a multi-faith prayer for Ukraine at St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv on Independence Day, according to the Ukrainian president’s official website.

Religious leaders from Orthodox, Greek Catholic, Roman Catholic, Baptist, Jewish, Muslim, Reformed and Pentecostal communities took part in the service on Aug. 24, 2026. The prayers focused on peace, unity, independence and prosperity for Ukraine.

Clergy also prayed for the return of children, prisoners and people missing in action, as well as for the healing of wounded Ukrainians and protection for the country’s defenders. The gathering was held amid Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
