Queensland police have charged a man following a series of alleged property offences in Mackay on Thursday, August 20, including the reported theft and subsequent crash of a Ford Ranger. Police said they were called to a residence on Shakespeare Street shortly before 8 p.m. after a man allegedly entered the property and fled when disturbed by the occupant. He allegedly then entered another residence on the same street, stole keys to a Ford Ranger and drove away. About 8:30 p.m., officers located the vehicle abandoned after it crashed into a ditch at the intersection of Norris and James streets. Police later received reports that the man was allegedly inside a James Street residence and preventing the occupant from leaving. The police dog unit located the man outside the property shortly before 9 p.m. He was taken into custody and transported to Mackay Base Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Police charged him with two counts of entering a dwelling with intent, and one count each of entering a dwelling and committing an offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, deprivation of liberty and trespass.
