Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi discussed food security, Black Sea security and bilateral relations during a phone call on Aug. 14, according to Ukraine’s presidential office. Zelenskyy thanked El-Sisi for Egypt’s attention to threats affecting food supplies from the Black Sea. He said Ukraine’s agricultural exports to Egypt and other countries in Africa and the Middle East had been seriously threatened by Russia’s war. Zelenskyy also expressed condolences over the deaths of two Egyptian citizens killed in Russian strikes on cargo vessels. The leaders discussed measures to protect people and address potential shortages and rising prices, as well as cooperation in the energy sector. The two presidents agreed that their teams would continue work on the issues raised during the call. Zelenskyy also invited El-Sisi to visit Ukraine.
