Eight More Charged in Townsville Assault

Eight additional people have been charged over the alleged assault and torture of a 17-year-old boy in Townsville, bringing the total number charged in the investigation to 11, Queensland Police said.

The boy was found by members of the public in bushland near Cape Pallarenda Road at about 6:35 p.m. on July 18. He was taken to Townsville University Hospital in stable condition.

Detectives from the Townsville Child Protection and Investigation Unit charged five adults on August 7 with offences including deprivation of liberty, assault occasioning bodily harm while armed or in company, grievous bodily harm and torture. The five, aged between 24 and 40, have been remanded in custody and were due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on August 10.

Three 15-year-old boys were also charged with the same offences. Two appeared in Townsville Children’s Court on August 8, while the third is due to appear on August 14. Police said investigations under Operation Yankee Shadowmark remain ongoing.
