Zelenskyy Vows Response to Strikes

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said every Russian strike would receive a response as emergency crews worked to restore power and water supplies in Odesa following an overnight attack.

In an address published Aug. 9, Zelenskyy said more than 300,000 families in Odesa and the surrounding region had been without electricity by morning. Power had been restored to about one-third of them, he said, while repair crews and the State Emergency Service continued working. He also reported strikes in Kharkiv and its region, Pavlohrad, Kherson, Sumy and Zhytomyr regions.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine had carried out what he described as justified responses against Russian oil-refining facilities, air-defense missile systems and radar stations, as well as infrastructure in the Azov and Black Sea regions. The claims were presented in the presidential address and were not independently verified.

The president said Ukraine would hold new contacts with mediators regarding possible steps to end the war and would seek additional air-defense packages. He also praised Ukrainian military units operating near Dobropillia, Kostiantynivka and Kramatorsk, along with airborne forces involved in active combat areas.
