Three people have been charged and six others are assisting police after a 17-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted and tied to a tree in bushland near Townsville last month, Queensland Police said. Members of the public found the boy near Cape Pallarenda Road at about 6:35 a.m. on July 18. He was taken to Townsville University Hospital in stable condition. Townsville Child Protection and Investigation Unit detectives, working under Operation Yankee Shadowmark, charged three people following investigations. Those charged include a 13-year-old Deeragun boy, a 35-year-old Kirwan woman and a 14-year-old Kirwan girl. The charges include deprivation of liberty, assault occasioning bodily harm, grievous bodily harm and torture. The woman remains in custody and is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on September 28. The girl has been dealt with under the Youth Justice Act, while the boy appeared before Townsville Children’s Court on July 24. Investigations remain ongoing.
