Two Charged After Police Chase

Two people have been charged following an alleged high-speed pursuit involving a Mercedes sedan across Ipswich and Brisbane on July 31, Queensland Police said.

Police said officers attending an unrelated matter on Spencer Street, Redbank, at about 7:25 p.m. observed a man and woman leave the area in the vehicle. The Mercedes was tracked east toward Brisbane, where the driver was allegedly travelling dangerously and at high speed.

Officers deployed a tyre-deflation device before the vehicle entered Moorooka. A 30-year-old man allegedly continued driving before abandoning the car and being taken into custody. Police said the 29-year-old passenger, from Alderley, then drove away in the Mercedes before a second tyre-deflation device brought the vehicle to a stop.

The man faces nine charges, including two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle and driving without a licence. He appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on August 3. The woman has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and was due to appear in the same court on August 31, according to police.
