A 36-year-old man has been charged after a serious two-vehicle crash in Bundaberg left another driver critically injured. The collision occurred at about 4:49 p.m. on July 31 at the intersection of Woondooma and Branyan streets, Queensland Police said. Police allege a red Mazda 3 sedan collided with a white Toyota Hilux before the Mazda driver fled the scene on foot. He was arrested shortly afterward and taken to Bundaberg Hospital with minor injuries. The 64-year-old Avondale man driving the Toyota sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he remained in critical condition. The Bundaberg West man faces charges including dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, failing to provide the necessities of life, evasion, driving without a licence, driving an uninsured vehicle and driving an unregistered vehicle. He was expected to appear in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on August 1. Police are appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone who saw the Mazda before the crash.
