Samsung Electronics has outlined the engineering behind its latest Galaxy Z foldable smartphones, including the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8, unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22. The company said the eighth-generation lineup was shaped by user insights gathered across seven generations of foldable devices. In an interview published by Samsung Newsroom, Sunghoon Moon, executive vice president and senior executive of the company’s Mobile R&D Office, said Samsung engineered the new devices as interconnected systems. The approach combines display, hinge, battery, thermal and internal design changes to make the phones thinner and lighter while maintaining durability and performance. Samsung said its new Flex Titanium technology uses a titanium plate and a precision-engineered lattice structure to support the ultra-thin OLED display. A titanium-alloy film provides additional flexibility and elastic recovery for repeated folding. According to the company, the technology reduces display module thickness by 10%, creating more room for other components while helping reduce crease visibility. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra includes a 5,000 mAh battery and uses a silicon-carbon anode intended to improve energy density. Samsung also said the Fold8 models feature a dual-path charging architecture supporting 45-watt fast charging, with the Fold8 Ultra reaching 67% capacity in 30 minutes under the company’s stated conditions. The devices underwent more than 100 reliability tests covering drops, repeated folding, pressure, moisture and debris.
