Queensland police have charged a 73-year-old Gold Coast man over the alleged creation and possession of child exploitation material using a work-issued computer and artificial intelligence software. Detectives from the Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit began investigating in October 2025 after receiving a report about the alleged misuse of a restricted computer by an employee at a school in Arundel. Police allege the man used a work-issued laptop and AI software to generate explicit images depicting school staff members and students. He has been charged with offences including misuse of a restricted computer, making and possessing child exploitation material, and possessing or controlling child abuse material. The man is scheduled to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on August 6. Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Aubort said digitally generated images could still cause real harm and that police would continue investigating the use of technology to create or distribute child exploitation material.
